In the context of globalisation and a world that proliferates AI, how do you see the future of work and jobs? What is the future of ‘jobs’ in this context – and what is the work we will see as valuable (aka worth getting paid for/finding someone to pay us for) in future?

I am not convinced that AI will make us any more productive. I see no evidence of this. I know it’s supposed to give us efficiency of information, research, knowledge work, et cetera, but I’m not sure if overall it will make us any more efficient. I suspect it will just adjust and shift work hours into different types of work in a new AI-assisted ecosystem.

I think it is more likely to add to our creativity.

Obviously, IP and copyright are under attack, but I do think it will be like a rising tide of automation that raises all creative boats. If we can learn to work in collaboration with AI, we will improve our own strategic creative abilities and move from creation to selection as the main human output. We will be spending more time as humans watching, selecting for and understanding context. Context makes a comeback as a human sensibility.

For me, the successful jobs will be those that display technological convergence and therefore need a human to oversee or apply context or nuance to some degree – biotech (still needs a human ethical framework), space energy and science (still needs a human spirit of exploration), immersive education (still needs a human teacher or coach).20
